Meet Your Midwife
Alyssa has been in birth work since 2021 as a doula, birth photographer, and now midwife. Her passion for birth began as a child growing up in India and Ukraine where she witnessed the various cultures’ philosophies surrounding birth. After attending her first birth, her calling to serve women was solidified even further and it has been her driving force for becoming a Certified Professional Midwife. She has attended births with many midwives in Tulsa and several obstetricians in a hospital setting. Alyssa also has a bachelor’s degree from Oral Roberts University in Biblical Literature with a concentration in the Old Testament, which she tied into midwifery by writing her thesis on the midwives in Exodus.
Alyssa is a child of a deaf adult so is fluent in ASL as well as Ukrainian and Russian. Alyssa loves spending her time rock climbing, hanging out at coffee shops, singing, and decorating cakes. She is probably the “crunchiest” person you’ll meet and enjoys learning about holistic health and homeopathic medicine.

“Deep within every woman is the ability to birth. When she has confidence in her own abilities, the encouragement and freedom to tap into her innate wisdom, and has the loving support of family, friends and professionals who believe this too, she will truly have a satisfying birth experience.”
Our Birth Philosophy
We believe in normal, physiological birth and deeply trust your body’s innate wisdom and ability to give birth.
Education
We believe in providing the education needed to make autonomous and empowered decisions regarding your births and families. True informed consent begins with knowing all of the benefits, risks, and alternatives to every procedure and intervention.
Safety
We believe in being a safe place to process fears, joys, traumas, excitement, worries, and all of the feelings that come with growing families. We work diligently to ensure the safety of you and your baby throughout pregnancy and birth.
Relationship
We believe in fostering clear communication that leads to a trusting relationship between you and your midwife which aids in shared decision making when it is needed. Knowing the person who will be with you in the sacred birth space helps keep that space safe and intimate.
Advocacy
We believe in fiercely advocating for your desires for your birth whether that birth takes place at home, at a birth center, or in the hospital. You are the decision maker for yourself, your baby, and your family as a whole. Supporting you in making those decisions is of the utmost importance to us.
Peace
We believe in helping you create a peaceful pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience by truly listening to you and your experience. Pregnancy, labor, and birth provides us with a unique opportunity to learn about ourselves, heal, and give birth to a new and better version of ourselves.
Natural Remedies
We believe in honoring the wisdom of the ancient art of midwifery care while blending it with evidence-based practices of today. While there is a time and a place for allopathic medicine, we strongly encourage nutrition and movement, herbs, homeopathic remedies, chiropractic care, and more as first lines of defense.
“Alyssa’s knowledge, empathy, and respect for birth makes her a worthwhile midwife. She was so kind and encouraging from pregnancy, through labor, and well into postpartum. I will not have a baby without her!”

FAQs
What is a midwife?
The Certified Professional Midwife and Licensed Midwife is licensed through the State Medical Board and is a professional health practitioner who offers primary care to healthy women and their normal unborn and newborn babies throughout normal pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, the neonatal and interconceptional periods. Certified Professional Midwives have several years of education and training in the home birth setting. Furthermore, throughout history midwives have always been used for low risk women. Midwives provide loving care and deep relationships are developed with the families we care for.
What do you bring to a birth?
We have strict protocols and practice guidelines that reflect Oklahoma laws. We bring supplies for monitoring maternal vitals and fetal heart tones, herbs, 3 different medications for postpartum hemorrhage, resuscitation equipment, IV supplies, antibiotics, and supplies for suturing (including numbing medication) to name a few. We have requirements to recertify every two years in CPR and neonatal resuscitation. We also bring a birth pool if the client desires water birth.
What happens if I risk out of care or have to transfer in labor?
Most homebirth midwives transport rates to the hospital typically range between 3%-8% on any given year. With a cesarean rate that typically stays between 3%-6% and an emergency transport rate under 1%. In the event of a prenatal transfer, we will assist with the transfer of care to a trusted OB and offer labor support in a doula role. In the event of a labor transfer, we will have already established your nearest hospital and your prefered hospital, and accompany you there to whichever one is needed. We will fax your records, call ahead to the hospital to give report so that they know exactly who we are and why we are coming to them, and will stay with you for the remainder of the birth.
Are home-births safe?
Yes! For low-risk, healthy women home births are a safe option! Home Births lead to less interventions, increased breastfeeding initiation, and increased postpartum health. ACOG (American College of Gynecologists) states “Recent studies have found that when compared with planned hospital births, planned home births are associated with fewer maternal interventions, including labor induction or augmentation, regional analgesia, electronic fetal heart rate monitoring, episiotomy, operative vaginal delivery, and cesarean delivery. Planned home births also are associated with fewer vaginal, perineal, and third-degree or fourth-degree lacerations and less maternal infectious morbidity.” the remainder of the birth!
Do you accept insurance?
Most Midwives do not take insurance but will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance to get reimbursed following the birth.
